Henry Brevard Davidson

Our great-grandfather(5) Georege (Davison) Davidson was the great uncle(3) of Henry Brevard Davidson.  Henry was born in Shelbyville, Tennessee on the 28th of January 1831.  He was a career soldier who graduated from West Point in 1853, and served as an officer in the United States Army in the West (current states of Washington, Oregon, California, New Mexico) reaching the level of captain before joining the Confederate States Army in 1861.  As a confederate officer he rose to the level of Brigadier General, commanding brigades of calvary  in the western theater, primarily in Tennessee and Georgia.

After the war, Henry moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, and served as a deputy sheriff (1867).  He moved further west and from 1878 to 1886, he served as an inspector of the United States public works at San Pedro, California.  In 1887 he was appointed a Deputy to William C. Hendricks, the Secretary of State of California.

On the 4th of March, 1899, Henry died in Livermore, California, and is buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, California.
